Description
A Georgian period walnut gentleman's chest, English, circa early to mid 18th century. The case is comprised of two pieces, the lower case a chest of three drawers, and the upper case a two-door cabinet housing four drawers. Brass bail pulls and batwing escutcheons, mortise-and-tenon and dovetail joinery, bracket feet.
Â
Measures 79 1/2" x 40" x 22".
Condition
The four drawers inside the upper case are a later addition-- the wood is nicely matched and the drawers operate smoothly, but those four interior drawers are not of the period. Much of the brass hardware is later. There are a few cracks across the piece: the left side of the cornice molding, the right door panel, and the right side of the lower case. Small losses to the cockbeading and waist molding.
