Description
A leaf from Plutarch's Parallel Lives, printed by Adolf Rusch ("the R-Printer"), Strasbourg, circa 1470s. The contents of the leaf include a dedication to Cardinal Francesco Piccolomini and a table of contents. Illustrated with floral designs. Antiqua type. Sight approx. 14" x 9". The glazed frame measures 22 1/2" x 17 1/2".

Rusch's was the second printed edition of Plutarch's Parallel Lives, after only Ulrich Han (Rome) in 1470, and preceding Nicolaus Jenson in 1478. In 2021, Christie's London sold a copy of the complete intact Rusch volume for $100,000.
Condition
Vertical and horizontal crease to the leaf, and a little bit of wrinkling from handling. Faint stains to the top and right. Not removed from the frame.
