Condition
There are two scratches to the plate beneath the glass. The brass banding on the left edge of the frame is bent and slightly pulled forward- it appears to have been opened. All other seals appear to be intact. The inside of the glass has soiling and there is some tarnish to the silver plating. The servant boy's face can be seen in oblique/raking light. The inside velvet is intact. Gilt brass frame liner has oxidation. Exterior case is mostly intact with a few small chips/losses to corners and edges. The gutta percha "Union" case was patented between 1857-1858 by Littlefield, Parsons and Co., and produced until 1866.
