DESCRIPTION: Luca Madrassi (Italian, 1848-1919) Jeune Couple ("Young Couple") bronze sculpture with brown patina finish. Signed "L. Madrassi" on base. Luca Madrassi was an Italian-born French artist best known for his bronze Art Nouveau sculptures of mythological, allegorical, and rustic figures. His work was influenced by the famed French illustrator and sculptor Gustave Dore. Born in 1848 in Italy, he went on to study under Pierre-Jules Cavelier at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris and later worked in the studio of Dore. Madrassi exhibited at the Salon de la Societe des Artistes Francais from 1879 on, becoming a French citizen in 1890. The artist died in 1919 in Paris, France.
