Description
Classical World, Greco-Roman, Late Republic Period, ca. 1st century BCE. A cast-bronze bread stamp of a rectangular form with a suspension ring on the verso. The recessed stamp face bears 14 raised Greek letters, and the tool is covered in layers of matte green and brown patina. The lettering reads "COCIUS CATULUS", identifying the stamp's owner as a poet who often went by simply Catullus (c. 84 to 54 BCE). Size: 2.75" W x 1.1" H (7 cm x 2.8 cm).
