Measuring 4 7/8" by 1 3/4" this very rare black picture box features a crisp illustration of the bait as well as the "Pat Applied For" marking. With all printing legible and the box bottom factory printed to use for shipping, the condition is about VG+ due to wear/rubs, two separated corners (one with tape), and an old thin varnish overcoat. This important combination includes the correct early Sure Lure bait, silver with gold spots, front prop marked PATENTED, the rubber body now rigid, grading at least VG+/Ex- with only wear to the finish and tiny age lines. Other than the musky box, this is the rarest of all the Shakespeare black lure boxes with only a handful known.
