One of the most collector coveted of Shakespeare's early maroon boxes, 5 1/8" in length, retaining its original label with lure illustration, marked "Rainbow Size 1 No. 1601 3 Hooks Green Back White Belly", and retaining its extremely rare correct insert card, notched to hold only the 3hk minnow. Also included is a rarely seen 2hk Shakespeare minnow, green back rainbow, red hand painted gill marks, 3" with B-notch props and gem clip hook hanger, blemish free glass eyes, shiny VG+ (popped belly weight with chipping/glue residue, wear, age lines). The box with wear, warping, soiling and a bit faded, but considering the rarity and desirability, this is an important find, the card grades near Ex-. Only a scant few of these important pre-1910 box/insert combinations are known.
