An antique early 20th century English Art Deco sterling silver pill or powder box having a hinged lid adorned with a beautiful blue colored butterfly wing and a gold washed interior. Marked on the bottom: Mappin and Webb Ltd., GWL and Co for G W Lewis and Co, a Birmingham anchor mark, lion passant assay mark for sterling silver, date letter X for 1922. Note: Mappin and Webb is an international jewellery company headquartered in England. Mappin and Webb traces its origins to a silver workshop founded in Sheffield in 1775. Mappin and Webb has held Royal Warrants to British monarchs since 1897. The companys master craftsman Mark Appleby is the current Crown Jeweller of the United Kingdom.
