Description
Group of Seven Victorian Fairings

probably German, mid 19th century, three (3) designed to accommodate a looking glass (largest 5 3/4 in.) and two (2) designed to hold ink and sand (larger 5 1/2 x 6 1/2 in.) (broken and glued).
Fairings were given away as prizes or souvenirs at the fairground and were mostly small porcelain ornaments. The word fairing is defined in the Oxford English Dictionary as 'a present given at or brought from a fair'.

Condition
Several with original firing cracks and wear to gilding; reclining figure composition with (2) small losses and hairline; crib with small loss and paint restoration; bed with small chip to rim; boy and dog composition with repair to foot; girl and hen composition with small loss to rim; flakes to man and boy composition.
