Description
Pre-Columbian, Northern Peru, Chavin, ca. 600 to 300 BCE. A pair of copper appliques or perhaps earrings of rectangular form exhibiting an early depiction of the fanged god Ai Apec in repousse. Each applique features the deity grimacing at the viewer, his eyes focus on whatever is in front of him, and below are 4 trapezoidal ornaments. Size: 3.1" W x 2.1" H (7.9 cm x 5.3 cm); gold gilt quality: between 2.69% and 3.69%.
