An extremely rare brass helmet in the form of a European morion, which was introduced by the Portuguese in 1525. Worn by the Bodyguard of the Sultans of Sulawesi. The skull formed in two halves connected with tiny rivets and finely embossed with tapering panels which converge at the peak. The gracefully-curved brim of characteristic form with cusped termini, studded with large bosses and separately applied roped border, triple plumeholder affixed to the obverse. Retains its rare finial. Deeply patinated overall. 17th century or later. Minor dents and losses. For another of the same group see, A.
