Description
A Colima Reclinatario West Mexico, c. 250 BC - 250 AD The ancient artists of Colima made small sculptures of people leaning back on large structures in this shape, referred to as reclinatarios, so this smaller, stand alone version symbolizes ease and support and also functions as a vessel for liquid nourishment. The odd shape is described as a bird or fish in profile with human-like legs. Hollow earthenware with a fine red-brown burnished slip. In very good condition, the proper right leg reattached to the body, otherwise intact. Height: 12 ½ inches HID03101062020 © 2023 Heritage Auctions | All Rights Reserved
