A collection of 288 all original 1860's and 1870's single-page and double-page detailed hand-colored maps that were originally in atlases published by Beers, Everts, Nichols, Mitchell, Johnson's, and others. 212 of these maps are of counties, cities, towns, boroughs, and villages in New York State, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, and Maine (most being NY State). The New York city, town, and village maps include the counties of Westchester, Putnam, Dutchess, Ulster, Oneida, Steuben, Albany, Schenectady, Delaware, Schoharie, Genesee, Herkimer, Onondaga, Orange, Columbia, Otsego, Fulton, Montgomery, Tompkins, Wayne, Madison, and Rensselaer.The Pennsylvania city, town, and village maps include the counties of Luzerne, Lancaster, Cumberland, and Bradford. The Massachusetts maps include the counties of Hampden and Norfolk. The Maine maps include the counties of Waldo, Lincoln, Oxford, Washington, Franklin, Kennebec, and Sagadahoc. These pink, yellow, and green pastel-colored county, city, town, and village maps show the names of many families printed exactly where they lived, as well as all the railroads, bodies of water, mountains, native American reservations, landmarks, etc. The village maps show family names, streets, churches, schools, hospitals, cemeteries, many businesses, and landmarks in each village. 76 of these maps are of U.S. states, foreign countries, and continents mostly published by Mitchell and Johnson's. The U.S. state maps include New York, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Vermont, Michigan, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and Minnesota. The foreign maps include the Roman Empire, Palestine, Africa, Persia, Russia, China, South America, the Austrian Empire, France, England, Spain, Switzerland, Norway, Sweden, Oceanica, Central America, Europe, Asia, India, Australia, and other foreign countries. Many of the maps have slight border tears, border and corner chipping, creases, age toning, scattered foxing as typical, most being in good condition.
