Carved with two vases and a lower cup, the whole decorated with chrysanthemum and birds on a rock form; 6 3/4in tall. Condition: Shallow chip on one vase rim, otherwise good. FROM THE FAMILY OF REV. CHARLES HARTWELL (1825-1905) and Lucy Estabrook Stearns Hartwell (1827-1883); their children Charles Stearns Hartwell (1855-1931), Emily Susan Hartwell (1859-1951), and Carrie Amelia Hartwell Tupper (1864-1959); Congregational missionaries and philanthropists in Foochow (Fuzhou), China, 1850s-1930s.
