A vintage pair of rigid sole black silk embroidered shoes with tassels (8in), together with a smaller similar pair, in better condition (5 1/4in); and a pair of embroidered green silk and ribbon trim platform heel shoes (footbed approx. 8 1/4in). FROM THE FAMILY OF REV. CHARLES HARTWELL (1825-1905) and Lucy Estabrook Stearns Hartwell (1827-1883); their children Charles Stearns Hartwell (1855-1931), Emily Susan Hartwell (1859-1951), and Carrie Amelia Hartwell Tupper (1864-1959); Congregational missionaries and philanthropists in Foochow (Fuzhou), China, 1850s-1930s.
