Comprising an entremblant butterfly brooch with carved and pierced jade wings and body, and a carved jade bird motif stick pin; lengths: 2 ¾ and 3in. respectively (wings show crazing). c. 1900 (can be seen in family photo of that date; not included). FROM THE FAMILY OF REV. CHARLES HARTWELL (1825-1905) and Lucy Estabrook Stearns Hartwell (1827-1883); their children Charles Stearns Hartwell (1855-1931), Emily Susan Hartwell (1859-1951), and Carrie Amelia Hartwell Tupper (1864-1959); Congregational missionaries and philanthropists in Foochow (Fuzhou), China, 1850s-1930s.
