Antique French sterling silver mounted glass box with miniature

Item Details

Description

An antique French high grade silver and cut glass box/dresser box and cover with an exquisitely hand painted miniature portrait on vellum on the lid, under glass. The miniature is possibly older than the box and represents an aristocratic maiden dressed with late 17th/early 18th century French Regence garments. The miniature is apparently un-signed but we did not try to take it out of the lid to check. The silver is stamped with the French Minerva hallmark for high grade silver (.950 silver). The maker's mark is there but worn and illegible for us to tell. Circa 1880-1900.
Approximate measurements: 2" H x 4.5" in Diameter

Condition

Very good age appropriate condition, with very minor use related wear.
