LOCKHEED X-27 CONCEPT CONTRACTOR'S MODEL. Mixed materials on wooden base, c.1971, wingspan 11-inches, fuselage 21 1/4-inches, 15 1/2-inches tall, plaque on base reads: 'Lockheed X-27 Lancer.' Provenance: Santa Monica Museum of Flying (deaccessioned). The Lockheed CL-1200 Lancer, with experimental designation X-27 by the United State Air Force, was conceived as a low-cost fighter aircraft based upon the Lockheed F-104 Starfighter and primarily with export in mind. The present model began as a Southwick F-104 and was modified by Lockheed Burbank's in-house model shop.
