LOCKHEED MARTIN SKUNK WORKS X-33 CONTRACTOR'S CONCEPT MODEL. Mixed material on composite base, RetroRocket, mid-1990s, wingspan 9 1/2 inches, fuselage 8 1/4 inches, 9 3/4 inches tall, no plaque on base. The Lockheed Martin X-33 was a proposed half-scale, sub-orbital uncrewed Mach 12 demonstrator for the VentureStar orbital spaceplane. The X-33 was to flight test various technologies needed for single-stage to orbit reusable launch vehicles (SSTO RLVs). The present model was made by RetroRocket for NASA and Skunk Works and includes articulated control surfaces, and is hinged to move from a horizontal orientation to vertical on the launchpad base complete with swinging support structure.
