Provenance: Deaccessioned works benefiting the Newark Museum of Art; Gifted to the Newark Museum by Tiffany, NYC
Notes/Literature: Built in 1892, at 820 Highland Avenue, the Romanesque style Tiffany silver factory had a fortress-like setting, with 21"-thick exterior walls, two towers, skylights & several interior courtyards. It was self-contained with its own sources of power, steam & water. The stunningly beautiful, pure sterling silver pieces – from tableware to prestigious trophies – were designed & handmade by expert craftsmen in Newark. The factory also produced Tiffany & Co.'s famous stationery products. The factory's official name: Tiffany & Company Stationers and Silver and Gold Smiths.
