Description
Historically attributed to John English from his early period; more recent theory suggests they were carved by John’s father or brother, although no documentation or evidence exists that either carved decoys. Hollow carved with raised V wingtips and incised tail feather carving. “DSC” stamped in the underside for the collection of David Campbell. Measure 15” long.Provenance: Bill Appleton rig; Bob White, Bill Mackey; Hal Sorenson; Harrison Huster & Dave Campbell collections. Exhibited at Burlington County Museum, 1998 Bob White collection
Condition
Original paint with moderate wear under a thin coat of varnish that has darkened with age; minor roughness on tip of hen’s tail and bill tip.
