An Italian leaf on vellum from a 14th century Book of Hours written in gothic hand. Watercolor of a duck and unknown species of bird on water and land added later, most likely in the 17th century.

This leaf pertaining in part to a hymn to be observed Ad Primam or at Prime, the first hour of the day. Translated in part starting on the second page as follows: in Latin followed by English. Written parts on leaf highlighted in bold to the best of our ability.

Hymnus:

Hora prima Dominum ducunt ad Pilatum,

A falsis testibus multum accusatum,

Colaphis percutiunt manibus ligatum,

Vultum Dei conspuunt lumen caeli gratum.

Hymn:

They our Lord to Pilate led at the hour of prime,

And by witnesses full false accused much of crime,

His hands tied they him beat him with fists in great despite,

They upon God's face do spit the heaven's grateful light.
