Description
first half 19th century, 52 x 123 cm, Central Asia, West Turkestan
The dark red field contains nine immaculately drawn chuval guls and wide chemche secondary motifs placed between them. Most of the Tekke torbas have six or twelve primary guls. The nine-gul type is considerably rarer. Two gyak stripes flank the main border decorated with kochanak hooks. The dark ground colour of the field suggests a provenance in the Balkhan area. Outstanding quality, fine weave, cloth-like handle.
Slightly reduced at the upper and lower ends, new overcasting along the sides, pile in good condition. The back is missing.
