Description
Newton, Harold (1934-1994) Florida Highwaymen Painting. Oil on Upson - signed lower right. Artist used brush and palette knife, and this painting has been professionally cleaned and varnished. One questions whether this early Harold Newton on Upson is a glimpse into his Backus mentorship. Storm clouds in the distance announce the impending squall with the use of palette knife to highlight the swaying grasses and billowing coconut palms. Board measures 22x28 framed to overall size of 25x32 . African American Highwaymen Folk Art, evolved from the Backus Indian River School Art Colony. Condition: Very fine.
