Owing to its age and distinctive striped pattern which may be reminiscent of the highly sought after chung dzi beads, though it may not qualify as such.

Introduction:
This elongated banded agate bead hails from the rich heritage of Central Asia or the Himalayan regions. Agate, a semi-precious stone, has been used since ancient times and is known for its varied color patterns. This bead, with its striking combination of black, white, and yellow stripes, stands as a testament to the craftsmanship of artisans from the 18th to 20th century AD. Its unique design and elongated shape make it an exceptional artifact, reflecting an era when bead-making was an art form in these regions.

Provenance:
Acquired by our esteemed consignor, Mr. Alexander Thompson, from a local collector in Kathmandu, Nepal, in the early 2000s. Mr. Thompson, an avid collector of Asian artifacts, was captivated by the bead's unique striped pattern and its historical significance. The bead was previously owned by a local Lama who had inherited it from his ancestors and cherished it as a part of his family's heirloom collection.

Auctioneer's Comment:
This elongated banded agate bead is a piece of history, reflecting the artistry and culture of the Central Asian or Himalayan regions from the 18th to 20th century AD. Its distinctive striped pattern, combined with its unique elongated form, makes it a highly desirable piece for collectors and history enthusiasts alike. The bead, while bearing resemblance to the renowned chung dzi beads, holds its own unique charm and historical significance.
