Item Details
Description
Presented to Colorado Lawman John M. Macquarrie. He was the undersheriff of Huerfano County, Colorado, and served as second in command under Sheriff Jeff Farr, one of the most corrupt sheriffs in the history of Colorado. He also served as a Pinkerton agent and a detective for the Denver Rio Grande and the Colorado & Southern railroads. The Colt Factory Archive letter states that this gun is a .45/c with a 4 - 3/4" barrel, silver plated, and with pearl grips. Factory inscribed "WALSENBURG April, 20 1904 COLORADO" on top of frame and "J.M. MACQUARRIE" on strap. It was sold to Paul Frolich, address unavailable. It was shipped to George Tritch Hardware Company in Denver, Colorado, on May 20, 1904, in a shipment of one gun. It comes with a period case, handcuffs, and a deputy sheriff's badge. The badge is maker-marked "SACH'S LAWLOR M&M CO. DENVER COLO." 2-line barrel address on top with a rolled mark caliber on the left side of the barrel. 2-line patent dates with a rampant Colt logo on the left side of the frame. Matching serial numbers observed on the frame, trigger guard, and backstrap. Assembly number 1066 on the inside of the loading gate. PROVENANCE: Richard "Dick" Burdick collection. CONDITION: The gun retains virtually all of the reapplied silver finish with just a little high edge wear. The screw heads show some slight damage from use. The pearl grips have been replaced at sometime since it was sold the last time. Bore shows some slight pitting and frosting in the lands and grooves. This gun is a great piece of Colorado history. Accessories: Case, Badge and Handcuffs Barrel Length: 4 - 3/4" Caliber/Bore: .45 Colt FFL Status: Curio & Relic Manufacturer: Colt Model: SAA Paperwork: Binder of Prov., Copy of Factory Letter Serial Number: 253735
