Item Details
Description
Embroiled in World War I and in dire need of small arms and ammunition, Russia contracted with several foreign companies, including Winchester, for armaments. Prior to the Bolshevik revolution, Russia purchased some 290,000 Model 1895 muskets chambered in 7.62x54mmR with stripper clip guides. This example was manufactured circa 1916 and remains in standard configuration for these contract rifles. Fitted with a 28" blued barrel, brass blade front sight, and ladder rear. Receiver stamped on bridge with Winchester proof and "7.62 / M. M." caliber designation. Full length walnut finger groove forend with handguard, retained by a pair of blued barrel bands, the forward band milled with bayonet lug. Buttstock is plainly grained walnut with tool trap buttplate and boxed "XN3" proof stamped on right side. Musket is accompanied by a correct long style 16" bayonet with steel and leather scabbard, as well as a woven sling. CONDITION: Good overall. Barrel retains the majority of the factory blue with some fading and spotting. Receiver and lever also retain significant portions of original blue, fading to brown patina with some evidence of cleaning. Stocks are very good overall, showing expected scattered bumps and bruises. Bore is frosted with well-defined rifling. Mechanically fine. Bayonet is good with some cleaned oxidation spots, the scabbard largely patina. A very desirable military musket in nicer condition than usually encountered. Accessories: Bayonet Barrel Length: 28" Caliber/Bore: 7.62x54mmR FFL Status: Curio & Relic Manufacturer: Winchester Model: 1895 Russian Musket Serial Number: 338425
