Description
Continental, circa 1870, a finely carved rendering in alabaster after the original marble sculpture by Heinrich Dannekar (1758-1841) of recumbent Ariadne with a classical drapery resting on a prowling tiger, apparently unsigned, restoration noted to one toe, measuring 15.5" high with plinth x 14" wide. Note: Ariadne was a Cretan princess and the daughter of King Minos of Crete.
