Description
Authors, also known as The Game of Authors, is an educational card game originally published by G. M. Whipple & A. A. Smith in Salem, Massachusetts in 1861. It was later published by Parker Brothers, also based in Salem, in 1897. There are apparently over 200 versions of this game. We believe the version here to be one of the earliest. This game is considered one of the early predecessors to the family of Go Fish games, where players take turns asking each other for specific cards. The gameplay revolves around a unique deck of playing cards tailored to the theme of famous authors.
Condition
Some cards are chipped and missing a corner. Card number 1 (Nathaniel Hawthorne) is torn in half and reconnected with tape. Cards have some soiling, stains, rounded edges, surface wear and other defects consistent with their age. Card numbers 47 and 48 are missing. Please view photos closely for further condition.
