Description
Ancient Greece, Hellenistic period, ca. 4th to 2nd century BCE. A single silver earring circlet that tapers out from a ram's head, with curled horns to the side. The slender but substantial silver wire loops around and rests under the animal's chin. Earrings would have been worn by high status Greek women, and jewelry was some of the only private property women could own in the Classical Mediterranean society. Size: 0.88" Diameter x 0.25" W (2.2 cm x 0.6 cm); silver quality: 84.8% to 85%; weight: 2 grams
