(1919-2006) U.S. Army combat medic, the first conscientious objector to be awarded the Medal of Honor for saving 75 men during the Battle of Okinawa. His life was the subject of the critically acclaimed 2016 film ‘Hacksaw Ridge’. Signed first day postal cover, Washington D.C., June 7, 1983, printed in honor of Doss. Signed in black ink at the bottom right, adding ‘C.M.H.’ A copy of his Medal of Honor citation is enclosed within. Fine.
