FINE BINDING ILLUSTRATED VOLUMES, LOT OF SEVEN, comprising (1) Lewis Carroll, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, New York: Harper and Brothers, 1901; (2) The Talisman, An Offering of Friendship, edited by Henry D. Moore, Philadelphia: Hogan and Thompson, 1852; (3) Washington Irving, Old Christmas, London: Macmillan & Co., 1894; (4) The Complete Works of William Shakespeare, New York: Garden City Publishing Company, 1936; and (5-7) Alexandre Dumas, Celebrated Crimes, Boston: Joseph Knight Company, 1896, three volumes. Carroll with hardcovers, gilt-embossed image of Alice on front cover, with multiple illustrations by Peter Newell and decorative line drawings by Robert Murray Wright surrounding the text on each page. Moore bound in leather with large lacquered mother-of-pearl floral designs on front and back covers, gilt-embossed designs on cover and spine, and multiple "oil colored illuminations from designs by Devereaux". Irving bound in cloth with gilt-embossed illustration on cover, with illustrations designed by Randolph Caldecott and engraved by J.D. Cooper on many pages. Shakespeare with red cloth boards bound in half leather and interior illustrations by Rockwell Kent. Dumas volumes have marbled boards bound in half leather with gilt-stamped title and volume numbers, plates with photo-etchings reproducing paintings and photographs throughout the text, and bookplates signed "Wm. K. Woodwell" inside front covers.

Condition
Overall good to very good condition. (1) Carroll with wear to covers and spine. (2) Moore missing corner of title page, with most of painted decoration worn away from covers, and heavy foxing and staining to interior pages. (3) Irving in very good condition with gilt edges intact. (4) Shakespeare with 1936 gift inscription written in ink on first page, slightly loose binding, and some wear to page edges. (5-7) Dumas volumes with fading to spines, otherwise very good.
