Description
A NAPOLEON III LOUIS XVI REVIVAL GILTWOOD WALL MIRROR, FRENCH, MID 19TH CENTURY, carved gesso and giltwood having a "War and Peace" crest comprised of high relief crossed quiver and arrows, recurve archery bow, and laurel leaf sprigs encircled by a flower diadem and beribbon tied bow issuing draped flower garlands from flared "ears" phalanges, falling before rope twist, polished band, and egg-and-leaf molding with a bead chain liner, centering a wide beveled rectangular mirrored plate. Height: 61" Width: 41 1/2" Provenance: Private Estate, Houston, Texas.
Condition
An apparent repair to one flower garland, small good possible inpainting and repairs intermittent, probably the original plate, some breaks and losses to carving, expected surface buildup and wear. Gesso with typical age cracks.
