AN ANGLO-INDIAN CHESSBOARD MAHOGANY AND MAPLE PARQUETRY INLAID GAMES TABLE TOP ON AN OAK COLONIAL BURMESE PEDESTAL BASE, 19TH AND 20TH CENTURY, the octagonal top with central parquetry inlaid chessboard comprised of curly maple and highly figured bird's eye maple veneers within a sunburst flame crotched mahogany top with chevron and string inlay ending with a luxurious band of bird's eye maple, over a (later added) molded and arcaded skirt, raised on the double barely twisted, tapered, and ring-turned pedestal, to a ring-turned and octagonal socle, issued from the tails of recumbent lions. Height: 29" Diameter: 36" Provenance: Estate of Robert William Guynn, Houston, Texas.
Condition
Some cracking and separation of joined wood mostly near the base, wood is dry at the lions/base, with surface scuffs, and expected wear, and some dents. The table is a construction from the 20th century using 19th century parts/fragments. Veneer is slightly dry with crazing/crackling, apparent repairs and restorations, chips, losses, with later finish to surface, and some glue residues.
