Item Details
Description
xplore the intricate beauty of 19th-century Moroccan craftsmanship with this stunning earthenware pot, likely originating from the cities of Fez or Meknes. The vessel, known as a jobbana, showcases the rich heritage and artistic traditions of the region.

Traditionally designed to store butter, cheese, or churn milk, the jobbana features a distinctive form with a domed or bell-shaped lid crowned by a finial. The name "jobbana" finds its roots in the Arabic word for cheese, "jubna," reflecting the original purpose of these vessels.

Adorning the exterior of the bowl is a captivating display of ornamental motifs rendered in bright blue, applied over a yellow under-glaze. The intricate patterns include organic diamond shapes, separated by bands of detailed filigree and geometric designs that mirror each other both at the top and bottom.

For collectors and enthusiasts of Moroccan art, this covered bowl stands as a remarkable example of the masterful ceramic work of the time. Its aesthetic allure and historical significance are further highlighted by a similar piece housed in the Brooklyn Museum, emphasizing the cultural and artistic value of these vessels.

With dimensions of 13 inches in height and 13.25 inches in width, this 19th-century Moroccan jobbana invites you to appreciate the meticulous craftsmanship and cultural legacy embedded in its design.
