Historic / Documented Description of a Captain's Heroic Saving the Crew of Another Schooner in 1852 Cased Captain's Presentation Sextant Marine Nautical Tool - inscription plate found on the lid of the wooden box and again on the cross bar of the sextant in part as some illegible "Presented by the Lords of the British Admiralty to A. P. Klein Captain of the East India Ship Magdalina (or Magdalena?) for his generous and intrepid conduct in rescuing the crew of the Schooner Iceni of Sunderland While Foundering on the (illegible) xxxxx 23rd of November 1852. Maker, Cary London.Note: Internet research provided more information found in shipwrecks on the 27th of November 1852.The ship was abandoned in the English Channel. Her crew were rescued by Magdelina (Netherlands). Iceni was on a voyage from Newcastle upon Tyne, Northumberland to Valencia, Spain."Ship News". The Standard. No. 8833.
