Description
This is a copperplate engraving from 1752 depicting Japanese militia symbols during the Tokugawa Shogunate era in Japan. The engraving includes symbols of the imperial militia as well as the symbols of the prince’s armed groups. It was created in Paris and is from the book ‘Histoire General des Voyages, ou Nouvelle Collection de Toutes les Relations de Voyages’ by Anton Francois Provost, engraved by Jacques Nicolas Bellin. The engraving measures 7 1/4" x 10" and is in overall good condition, with one small hole below the main print. Its authenticity is guaranteed. This engraving is a valuable piece of history that provides insight into the military symbols used during the Tokugawa Shogunate era in Japan. It would make a great addition to any collection.
