Chinese Carved Green Jade Camel, probably Qing Dynasty (1644-1912) in date, depicts the humped animals who were essential to travel and trade across the Silk Road. Frequently depicted in ceramic and stone as early as the 7th and 8th centuries, they were shown standing or, like this one, sitting, The open mouth and finely carved mane attests to the craftsman's artistry in creating carvings from jade stones.
