Includes some of Lincoln's greatest speeches and lines from them including ?A house divided against itself cannot stand.? A terribly important collection of speeches representative of mid-19th c. pre-Civil War American history. Listed in Streeter, Howes, and other important collection of America. Original brown gilt cloth very good, rare thus, not the first issue but close, notoriously difficult to find in collectible condition. Lincoln lost the Senate race but then in 1860 defeated Douglas for President.
