TWO CHINESE EMBROIDERED SILK ROBES, CIRCA 1920 AND LATER. The first, early 20th century, in dark purple silk, with broad borders of Key pattern, applique birds perched on flowering prunus and auspicious symbols on a pale blue ground, within black silk borders and ribboned borders of flowers, with pink silk toggles and front ties embroidered with cranes and other birds amongst prunus, the pink sleeves embroidered with cranes and other birds, lined in dark purple silk approx. 96cm long, the second long robe late 20th century, in dark purple silk, embroidered at the edges of a band of colourful prunus and baskets of flowers, lined with turquoise silk (2) Provenance: Property of Terence E B Harnden who served as Senior Naval Stores Officer in Hong Kong between 1937 - 1940. Acquired in Hong Kong before returning to England, thence by descent.

The first robe - in good order overall. Some very minor wear, some wear to toggles, toggle/attachment at collar is lacking, some possible repairs to toggles, overall in good order.
The second robe - with some wear, discolouration and rubbing to silk lining, with some noticeable wear at neck, some small marks to the reverse of robe.
