Hair, Alfred (1941-1970) Florida Highwaymen Painting. Oil on Upson - UNSIGNED. Developed in traditional brush finish background and palette knife foreground. Authenticated on reverse with a letter of provenance from Sam Newton. Acknowledged by his widow, Mrs. Hair Truesdale, this unmistakable Alfred is a testimonial to his production style work that was so often criticized by Harold Newton and Backus - To which he responded from his shiny Cadillac "But I sell more paintings than both of you". Original frame. Board measures 24x36 framed to overall size of 27x40. African American Highwaymen Folk Art, evolved from the Backus Indian River School Art Colony. Condition: Very Fine
