Description
**Originally Listed At $500**
Native American, United States, Columbia River Plateau region, Nez Perce, ca. mid to late 20th century CE. A near-miniature bucket bag finely woven or twined with a cloth rim and yarn embroidery- the base shows jute twine warp fibers with cotton / help wefts. The bucket shape is known as a "Sally bag," larger versions were often utilitarian, used for gathering roots, medicinal plants, or other foodstuffs that were in season. The flexible baskets required a special full turn twining technique that almost died out in the 1970s. Bags woven from native hemp and cornhusk were sought after trade items in the Plateau trade network, and as time went on, these bags were created more ornately using many materials. Size: 4.5" Diameter x 6.75" H (11.4 cm x 17.1 cm)
Please note this item falls under the Safeguard Tribal Objects of Patrimony Act and is not eligible for international shipping. Native American, Alaska Native, & Native Hawaiian objects are only eligible to ship within the United States.
