Description
George Cruikshank (British, 1792-1878), 1835, two etchings, 1) "Checkmate", depicting a mortified woman walking in on her husband with the maid, the drama highlighted by the scenes of mythology in the paintings in the background, including a satyr pursuing a maiden and a wrathful goddess punishing a man; and 2) "Stalemate", depicting the same couple, seated back to back in a sunroom, contemplating their next moves in their relationship, 4 1/4" x 5 3/4" image size, 8 3/4" x 10 3/4" framed.
Condition
1) Heavy foxing and wear consistent with age, not examined outside of glass; and 2) wear consistent with age, not examined outside of glass.
