(2) Pair of Louis XV-style bronze andirons with brown patina and putti decoration on a gilded bronze base decorated with foliage and foliage on 19th-century turret feet. Putti are painted or sculpted figures in the form of little creatures whose round shapes and laughing faces provide a thousand resources for the imagination. The Florentine Renaissance called them spiritelli. Naked and sometimes winged, the putto is represented in a multitude of postures and activities, alone or in numbers, and may be associated with other ornamental motifs.
