Very uncommon directory covering the western portion of the areas served by the recently completed transcontinental railroad, with "Business directories of Central Pacific Railroad cities and towns in California, Nevada, Oregon and Utah; business directory of San Francisco; classified business directory in all four states." Quebedeaux further notes that there are descriptions of the cities and towns on the Central Pacific Railroad line and its branches and calls it the "First major California railroad directory; first Central Pacific directory of its portion of the transcontinental line." Provenance: Descended in the family of Nevada City dentist, and orchardist, A. Chapman, whose full-page advertisement appears on p.39. Quebedeaux 139 locates 5 copies in institutional libraries, and OCLC located 4 copies, 3 of them different. Just light shelf wear; a few pages with offsetting from ferns that had been pressed, still fine and fresh. A very fine copy. California Franklin Collection
