A great deal of information is provided about the economic history of Nevada and the eastern slope of the Sierra, as it is as much a history of the region as it is a railroad book. Much on Chinese and Irish track gangs who built the railroads, as well as European capitalists who provided the money for greater expansion. Many industries are discussed including mining and gold mining, lumber and timber, fiberboard mills, etc. b) Vol. II, 1962. The author expands the history of the economic development and railroad expansion into Southern Nevada and Eastern California, from Death Valley and the Mojave Desert to the hard rock tunnels of Goldfield and the isolated communities of Rhyolite and Pioche. Much on silver mines. c) Vol. III. 392 pp., preface, acknowledgments, chronological list of selected events, illustrated from photographs, maps and charts.
