BIOGRAPHY:
Alvah Bradish was born in Fredonia, New York in 1806. His early life was spent in the village of Fredonia. He became an itinerant portrait painter and lived in Rochester, New York from 1837 to 46; Fredonia, New York 1846 to 1865; Ann Arbor Michigan from 1852 to 1865, and then Detroit, Michigan where he died On April 19, 1901. He also painted in Minnesotta, Canada, and Jamaica.In 1839 Bradish married Lydia Douglass Houghton'the daughter of Judge Jacob Houghton and Lydia Douglass. Her brother was Douglass Houghton, Michigan's first State Geologist. Together, Alvah and Lydia had three children. In 1852 Bradish was engaged to give lectures on the Fine Arts at the University of Michigan.
