Description
Measuring 3x2.5cm (1.18x0.98 inches), this stone amulet features a stylized animal, characteristic of the Bactrian culture which spanned present-day Afghanistan and surrounding regions. Such amulets were commonly used for protection or as a symbol of status.
Part of a collection belonging to D.K., acquired in Kabul during the 1970s; has been in the possession of private collector E.S., in Lyon, France, since 1989.
