Item Details
Description
This round terracotta plaque, with dimensions of 11x11x1 cm or 4.33x4.33x0.39 inches, originates from the transition period between the late Hellenistic and early Roman eras. The relief depicts a mythological tableau featuring human and animal figures, which may represent a tale from ancient mythology or a votive image dedicated to a deity. The artistry suggests a blend of Greek and Roman influences, with attention to detail that captures the dynamism and interaction between the characters.

Provenance: The plaque was part of an excavation in the Aegean region and entered a private collection in Rome in the mid-20th century. It was subsequently acquired by Mme. B.C., a French collector of antiquities, in the 1980s and has been under the care of the current owner, Mr. E.V., in Nice, France since 2002.
