Description
A highly carved walnut and mahogany Victorian library table or partners desk attributed to the hand of George Henkels (1819-1883 working in Philadelphia) circa 1860. The four legs supporting the framed top exhibit the typical bold animal and natural carvings that are typical of his work. A related but not identical example of such a table has a provenance to Simon Cameron (1799-1889) and is in the collection of the Historical Society of Dauphin County's collections. Other examples of Henkels work are in the collections of the Philadelphia Museum of Art. 56" wide x 34" deep x 29" high. Wear consistent with age. MEG
